David Franek receives AIGA Fellow Award at annual meeting

Founder and president of The Design Channel honored for career achievements.

Washington, DC, September 23, 2009 – David Franek, president of The Design Channel, received the Fellow Award from the Washington, DC chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), one of the country’s leading associations for design professionals, at the organization’s annual meeting September 22nd. A longtime design authority and executive in the DC area, Franek’s accomplishments and influence in the graphic design industry were presented and celebrated throughout the evening by a number of design firm principals with whom he shared professional relationships.

The AIGA Fellow Award is given annually to mature designers who have made significant contributions to the local design communities and chapter by raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct through education, writing, leadership and reputation, in addition to the practice of design.

David’s many achievements include being the recipient of awards from over one hundred local, regional, national and international organizations. His design work has been published in Communications Arts magazine, AIGA, Print Magazine, Art Directors Club Annuals, Graphis Magazine and Idea Magazine. He has also served as past president of the AIGA DC chapter and on the Board of Directors of the Art Directors Club of MetropolitanWashington and the International Design by Electronics Association (IDEA). David has also taught advanced graphic design as an adjunct faculty member at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Shepherd University.
